Urges Congress to enact legislation creating statewide

JOINT MEMORIAL
To the President of the United States and the Senate and the
House of Representatives of the United States of America, in
Congress assembled:
We, your memorialists, the Seventy-fifth Legislative Assembly
of the State of Oregon, in legislative session assembled,
respectfully represent as follows:
Whereas veterans who have served our great nation have earned
United States Department of Veterans Affairs health care
benefits; and
Whereas the United States Department of Veterans Affairs
strives to provide quality health care to veterans through
community-based outpatient clinics, medical centers and other
medical facilities; and
Whereas locations of veterans' health care facilities are based
upon veteran population in a particular area; and
Whereas many Oregon veterans reside in rural or remote areas of
Oregon that do not have a large enough veteran population to meet
the criteria for placing a veterans' health care facility in a
particular area; and
Whereas Oregon veterans who reside in rural or remote areas
must travel significant distances to access medical care; and
Whereas Oregon lacks a dependable statewide transportation
system to transport veterans, particularly disabled veterans, to
and from medical facilities, resulting in veterans being unable
to access health care; now, therefore,
Be It Resolved by the Legislative Assembly of the State of
Oregon:
(1) That the Seventy-fifth Legislative Assembly urges the
Congress of the United States to enact legislation that creates a
statewide transportation system in Oregon that would provide
transportation for Oregon veterans, particularly disabled
veterans, to and from medical facilities.
(2) A copy of this memorial shall be sent to the President of
the United States, to the Senate Majority Leader, to the Speaker
of the House of Representatives and to each member of the Oregon
Congressional Delegation.
