Senate Concurrent Resolution 5 Oregon Laws 2011

 

 

          Whereas dance contributes to the well-being of individuals who watch dance performances and those who dance; and

          Whereas dance and opportunities to go dancing lend vibrancy and vitality to the community; and

          Whereas dance festivals bring immense value to the people of a community by encouraging them to be active, to be healthy and to celebrate life; and

          Whereas National Dance Week was founded in 1981 to increase awareness of dance and its contributions to our national culture; and

          Whereas the goal of National Dance Day is to inspire everyone from top-notch dancers to people with two left feet to get up and exercise; and

          Whereas National Dance Day was considered by a Congressional resolution in 2010 (House Resolution 1514) to promote health and self-esteem through the art form of dance; and

          Whereas spring is a fine time of year to meet new friends and to renew old friendships through dancing; now, therefore,

 

Be It Resolved by the Legislative Assembly of the State of Oregon:

 

          We, the members of the Seventy-sixth Legislative Assembly, declare the last week in April of each year to be Oregon Dance Week.
