Relating to the financial administration of the Public Defender; appropriating money; and declaring an emergency.

Be It Enacted by the People of the State of Oregon:

SECTION 1. (1) There is appropriated to the Public Defender, for the biennium beginning July 1, 1999, out of the General Fund, the amount of $5,491,125 for appellate legal services to indigents.

(2) In addition to and not in lieu of any other appropriation, there is appropriated to the Public Defender, for the biennium ending June 30, 1999, out of the General Fund, the amount of $40,000 for appellate legal services to indigents.

SECTION 2. This 1999 Act being necessary for the immediate preservation of the public peace, health and safety, an emergency is declared to exist, and this 1999 Act takes effect on its passage.
