Redistricting

The redistricting process is underway and the next public hearing is scheduled for tomorrow, Tuesday, May 24, 2011, 5-7:00 p.m. at the Oregon State Capitol, Hearing Room A.  For those who wish to testify but are unable to attend, written testimony can be emailed to the Redistricting Committees at:  oregon.redistricting@state.or.us; 

mailed to Oregon Redistricting Office, 900 Court St. NE, RM 453-D, Salem, OR 97301; or faxed to the Oregon Redistricting Office at 503-986-1814.  For more information regarding the redistricting and hearing process, please see the State of Oregon Redistricting website at: http://www.leg.state.or.us/redistricting/.

Two proposals are before the Legislature concerning House District 20. One proposal would divide West Salem in half.  The north half would be moved into House District 23 with Dallas and the south half would remain in District 20 with Monmouth and Independence.  Maps can be viewed on line here. 

Those of us who live in West Salem understand that we are a single community of common interest and should remain together in a single district.  Now is the time to speak up from the neighborhood level for or against one of the proposals.  I have already spoken with the committee to oppose the split of West Salem.
