Historic Tie
The election resulted in six new Republican members in the Oregon House. This means that for the first time in the history of the state the membership of the House is tied with 30 Republicans and 30 Democrats. As leadership positions are appointed to the majority party, we are now engaged in a process of determining how to govern ourselves within this perfect split. Our timelines are tight as the
session starts January 10. With the passage of measure 71 the voters limited the amount of time we can be in session. The important job before us is to balance the 2011-13 budget under some sort of leadership coalition.
This week, I have the opportunity to be on a panel speaking to the new incoming freshman legislators. The question we are to answer is, "What I wish I would have known?" It will be fun to meet and visit with these eager new members.
December Revenue Forecast
The December Revenue Forecast will be delivered on Friday, November 19 to the Revenue Committee. This will tell us whether further cuts will be necessary in order to close out the current budget ending in June, 2011.
Honoring Veterans
Please remember our veterans every day. Today, Veterans Day reminds us that those who serve protecting our freedom don't get holidays.
Pre-Session Constituent Survey
As I gear up for session, I will be sending out another survey. I found it very helpful last session to have a snap-shot of the important issues from district constituents. Those who live in my district, please take the time to return this survey.
Thank you for staying in touch. My best to you in the coming holiday season.
Warm regards,
Vicki
