Gold Pioneer - Oh the stories I could tellHistory Center “Framed” With Early Agreements

Exciting progress is being made on the State Capitol History Center project. Core values and a statement of purpose have been approved and affirmed by project Governance Group and the Foundation.

Strategic goals are in draft form and a vision statement is under development. The strategic framework (vision, purpose, core values and strategic goals) will provide the underpinning of agreements to guide the development of concepts, designs, operating structures and partnerships that will be important to the sustainable success of the history center.

Core Values of the State Capitol History Center Project

  • Feature our State Capitol as “The People’s Building”.
  • Educate people.
  • Preserve the past.
  • Showcase individuals and events.
  • Reflect our diversity.
  • Demonstrate the worth of remembering what has gone before.

The Purpose of the State Capitol History Center Project
To enhance depth of understanding and clarity about the relationship of the State Capitol to the Oregon story.

Senator Lenn Hannon Reading Room

Senator Hannon Reading RoomThe Oregon Senate designated the room at the end of the Strayer Gallery as the “Senator Lenn Hannon Reading Room.”  Senator Hannon is the longest-serving state Senator in Oregon’s current Capitol and the second longest-serving state Senator in Oregon history.  Senator Hannon represented Ashland in the Senate for nearly 30 years from 1975 to 2004.  Senator Hannon was described as a legislator with strong leadership skills who was affable, “generous with his time and advice,” and who was “known for his close bipartisan friendships.”  The Hannon Reading Room is associated with Senator Hannon because he would occasionally retire to this room during Senate floor sessions.
