Oral History Project

  The Capitol Foundation adopted the oral history project in January 2002, recognizing that it fully supported the Foundation's mission of preserving history and celebrating contributions to state government. The objective of the oral history project is to preserve some of Oregon's most important stories for future generations.

  To date the Foundation has conducted sixteen interviews, including the following former elected officials: Vic Atiyeh, Wallace P. Carson, Ted Hallock, Paul Hanneman, Lenn Hannon, Ken Jernstedt, Denny Jones, Phil Lang, Clay Meyers, John Sell, L.L. "Stub" Stewart, Monroe Sweetland and Tony Van Vliet. In addition, we've recorded the stories of longtime Capitol reporter, Chuck Beggs; Henk Pander, the artist who painted Gov. Tom McCall's portrait; and Ken Hunt, the sculptor or U.S. Senator Mark O. Hatfield's bust which is displayed in the Governor's Office.
