Representative Brian L. Clem
D-Salem
District 21

Dear friends and neighbors,

Welcome to the 76th Legislative Assembly. For the first time in Oregon’s history the House of Representatives is evenly split between the parties – 30 Republicans and 30 Democrats. My promise is to continue to listen to my constituents in House District 21 and to work with my colleagues in a bipartisan effort to resolve the difficult issues that Oregonians face.

This session I will strive to get Oregon back to work by promoting economic development and stimulating job growth in the Salem community. A few of my key legislative priorities that will help create jobs are:

  1. Preferential Purchasing - HB 3000
  2. This bill is part of my Oregon First agenda and will allow our tax dollars to stay in Oregon and be put to work supporting local businesses that create jobs. We simply cannot afford to continue shipping jobs overseas when we have talent right here at home.

  3. Farm to School - HB 2800
  4. It’s no surprise that our children are facing an obesity epidemic and that we are still struggling to climb out of this recession. By promoting locally grown fresh fruits and vegetables, our school’s cafeterias can help keep our children healthy while at the same time supporting local job growth by purchasing goods from farmer’s right here in Oregon.

  5. Oregon State Hospital - HB 3100
  6. If you’re like me, you are tired of reading about the State Hospital in the news. This bill will help send criminals to jail where they belong and it will help relieve some of the financial stress that our State is facing by reserving the valuable space at the Oregon State Hospital for those with a true mental illness.

I have also been appointed as the Chair of the Agriculture and Natural Resources Committee, as a member to the General Government and Consumer Protection Committee and as Vice Chair to the Joint Committee on Legislative Audits, Information Management and Technology.

In addition to my legislative priorities, I will be planning several Town Hall meetings to update you on the Legislative Session as well as solicit feedback. I’ll be visiting businesses and engaging with local business leaders to discuss the best way to support them, and I’ll be visiting neighborhood associations and schools to get firsthand accounts of how our State is running.

We’d love to hear from you and your ideas on how to move our state forward. I welcome your questions, comments, and concerns. If I can ever be of service to you, do not hesitate to contact my office at 503-986-1421 or by email by using rep.brianclem@state.or.us.

Thank you for visiting my website and I look forward to working with you.

Sincerely,

Brian
