Biography
Larry George was elected in 2006 to represent Oregon Senate State District 13, and is currently serving his second term in office. Although he was elected in 2006, Larry’s political and policy involvement in Oregon stretches over two and a half decades.
Oregon State Senator Larry George graduated from Oregon State University with a Bachelor's degree in Business Administration (International Finance), a second Bachelor's degree in Liberal Arts (Political Science) and a minor in international and regional economics.
Larry is the now the owner of a number of diverse and successful businesses.
Larry is the President and co-founder of George Packing Company Inc. (GPC), one of the larger hazelnut processing and marketing operations in Oregon. GPC ships hazelnuts to markets around the world, with their primary markets in Europe and Asia. In that role, Larry has traveled to Geneva, Switzerland where he worked with the U.S. government to negotiate world trade standards within the framework of the United Nations Economic Commission for Europe (UNECE).
Larry is the owner of George Advertising, Inc., a consulting firm whose primary focus is on public policy issues in Oregon.
Larry is also the co-owner of a Hong Kong based company that manufactures alternative energy products for markets in Africa. He spends a great deal of time traveling in Asia and Africa as one of his personal passions is sustainable development possibilities for the future in Africa.
In September 1998, Larry became the host of “Daybreak with Larry George,” on AM 1360 KUIK. His daily radio program was heard during the morning drive in the greater Portland metropolitan area, and nearby cities. He also co-hosted with Portland City Commissioner Randy Leonard “Oregon Crossfire”, a point-counterpoint radio show on KXL 750 AM in Portland. Both shows ended in 2005 when he announced his candidacy for the Oregon State Senate.
From 1992-2002 he served as the Executive Director of Oregonians In Action, the nation’s largest property rights organization, taking it from an organization of few hundred members to one of the largest all volunteer grassroots organizations in Oregon.
Since 2000, Larry has served as the President of the Oregon Family Farm Association, a grassroots organization that supports Oregon's small farmers. Larry also serves on the Board of Directors of Water For Life, Inc., a grassroots organization defending the water rights of Oregon farmers and ranchers.
Larry has been featured and appeared on many media outlets including CNN, Wall Street Journal, Washington Journal, Washington Post, “Radio Crossfire” with Pat Buchanan, and has made numerous appearances on local radio and television programs.
