House Majority Leader Karen Minnis was elected November 7, 2002 by her 35 incoming Republican colleagues to serve as the next Speaker of the Oregon House when the Legislature reconvenes on January 13, 2003. The House Majority Leader is elected by the House Republican Caucus to lead their efforts in the House of Representatives. The Majority Leader and her staff assist Republican members and their office staff with legislation, constituent outreach, staff training, research, and media relations.

With the help of the House Republican Leadership Team, which includes the Majority Whip, the Deputy Majority Leader and the Assistant House Majority Leaders, the Majority Leader communicates with Republican members, and promotes the goals of the House Republican Caucus.
