OREGON HOUSE OF REPRESENTATIVES

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS of a STATE REPRESENTATIVE

Article IV, Section 8, Oregon Constitution

Those seeking election to the office of State Representative:

• Must be a citizen of the United States;
• Must be a resident of the legislative district one year preceding the election
• Must be at least twenty one years of age; and
• Cannot have been convicted of a felony during:
  • the term of office as state Representative, or
  • the period beginning on the date of the election at which the person was elected to the office.

Representatives are elected to two year terms. The term commences on the second Monday in January following the election, and continues for the full two year period.
