Representative Val Hoyle was sworn in to represent House District 14 in the Oregon Legislature on September 29th 2009. House District 14 encompasses West Eugene, Junction City, Cheshire, and Alvadore.
Val has 32 years of experience as an advocate, community volunteer, campaign worker and small business professional. She and her family moved to Lane County over ten years ago because of the good reputation of the 4J school system. Seeking to protect that system by ensuring more stable education funding, she began her public service in Lane County by joining in her local parent teacher organization and the education advocacy group Stand for Children. More recently, Val has worked as a legislative aide and policy analyst for State Senator Floyd Prozanski and prior to the 2011 Session she was the director of the 100% access initiative for United Way of Lane County. The 100% access initiative brings health care and community leaders together to provide affordable and accessible health care to the people of Lane County.
Val also has a successful business background with 25 years of experience in domestic and international sales, wholesale distribution and retail management in the sporting goods industry. She has worked for bicycle manufacturers Burley Design, LLC and Cane Creek, LLC to improve sales and marketing systems in the U.S. and internationally. Her professional accomplishments have allowed her to serve on the board of the Federal District Export Council of Oregon and the Outdoor Industry Women’s Coalition. She is also a founding member of the Eugene Chamber of Commerce’s International Trade Roundtable.
Val received her Bachelor of Arts degree in political science from Emmanuel College in Boston, MA. She lives in West Eugene with her husband Stephen and her children Deirdre and Aidan.
