Frequently Asked Questions

Q:
I'm listening to a hearing or floor session where they are discussing a specific measure. How can I find the full text of that bill?
A:
If you know the measure number, you can browse through the measures on the Legislative Internet site at: http://www.leg.state.or.us/07reg/measures/main.html
You also may wish to use the Legislative Website search engine at: http://www.leg.state.or.us:8765 to search for measures by keyword(s). This might be useful if you only know a subject, but not a measure number.

Q:
How do I find the current status of a bill?
A:
Measure History files are produced daily during session and provide all actions taken on each bill. The files are published separately for House and Senate measures and measures are listed numerically. The final entry for a bill is the most recent action taken.
The supplemental House and Senate Measure History files are available Tuesday through Friday mornings, and the cumulative measure history files are available beginning each Saturday morning. The cumulative files remain on the server until they are updated for the next week.
Supplemental measure history files show actions taken on legislation since the publication of the cumulative measure history files. We recommend that you use the most recent copy of the cumulative and supplemental files when looking for the most recent legislative information.

Q:
I am tracking a specific bill and want to access audio files for any meeting in which it was heard. How would I find such files?
A:
First, go to the Measure History files (discussed above) to determine which committee the bill was assigned to and when the committee hearings took place. Then access the Archives by clicking the Committees button under Archives on the button panel on the right. Find the corresponding committee and hearing date and click on the link. You may do the same for floor sessions by checking Measure History for the date of the Third Reading on the bill, which will determine the date the floor session was held.

Q:
I would like to listen to a hearing or session that took place early in the session. Can I do that?
A:
The archives for committee hearings on the Legislative Audio site begin April 12, 1999. The audio files of Senate and House floor sessions begin March 16, 1999.

Q:
How can I get an audio tape copy of a proceeding?

Copies of the tapes for chamber sessions and committees (except Revenue and Ways & Means) can be obtained by calling (503) 986-1182. Revenue committee tapes may be obtained by calling (503) 986-1266, and for tapes of Ways & Means hearings, call (503) 986-1828.
