Legislative Measure Tracking Information Available on the Internet

NOTE: Starting in January, 2013, a new electronic bill book application will be implemented and available on the Legislative Website. The application (OLIS-Oregon Legislative Information System) will run concurrently with the Legislative website for 2013 and will provide centralized information about bills and committees. OLIS will include:

As a service to our customers outside of the State Capitol, Legislative Administration is placing a set of four delimited text files on our FTP site. These files, which are in addition to the regular publication documents available on our web site, are set up so they can be easily imported into nearly any database system, spreadsheet application, or word processing table for further searching and formatting of reports. The files can be obtained via anonymous ftp at landru.leg.state.or.us/pub.

The file names are measures.txt, meashistory.txt, meascommeeting.txt, and measthird.txt. The files are updated at approximately 5:30 am the day following each session day and contain the most up-to-date information at that time. The files are created in a text only format, delimited by the character ä (ascii character 132). The first row of each file contains the field names.

A fifth delimited text file is now available, upd_measures.txt.  The new file will be updated hourly and will have the same structure as the measures.txt file.  By updating this new file hourly, the new bill introductions will be included in the file soon after they are introduced during the day.  Therefore, this file will more closely match the content posted to our website, namely the text of all introduced measures in PDF and HTML. Please note, however, that this file will contain some measures which will not yet be in the meashistory.txt file.

For more information on this file format, please contact Rick Butler at rick.l.butler@state.or.us. If you have any other questions, please let me know, Shane Walker, 503.986.1223. If you wish to be on a notification list for updates or changes to these files, please send your email address to shane.walker@state.or.us.

NOTE: The data contained in these files is offered for your convenience, the data is not official until the Final Status Report is available after session.

The files are set up in the following format:
