BI-PARTISAN BILL GIVES ‘GREEN LIGHT’ TO SMALL MEASURE 37 CLAIMS

Former Governors’ Measure 37 Bill Streamlines Claims, Assures Transferability

 

SALEM – Rep. Vicki Berger (R-Salem) today introduced legislation with Rep. Brian Clem (D-Salem) to clarify the Measure 37 process before the November vote.  They filed HB 3569 at the request of Gov. Vic Atiyeh (R) and Gov. Barbara Roberts (D), who’ve been working throughout the session to reach a bi-partisan compromise on Measure 37 implementation.

 

“HB 3569 gives the green light for small claimants and provides for transferability,” Rep. Berger said.  “This bill protects high-value farmland across the Central Valley, while streamlining the process for many individual property owners.”

 

The legislation allows property owners with smaller Measure 37 claims to proceed, but limits the number of lots that can be developed on high-value farm and forestland, and in groundwater-restricted areas.  All large claims are limited to 10 lots until shortly after Oregonians have voted on November’s legislative referral.

 

“For many claimants, this legislation helps alleviate the confusion caused by the legislative referral,” Rep. Berger said. “It allows them to proceed with their smaller developments while Oregonians determine the future of Measure 37.”
