Steiner Hayward Takes Oath
As Newest State Senator
(SALEM) – The newest member of the Oregon Senate was officially sworn into office at the Oregon State Capitol Thursday afternoon.
Governor John Kitzhaber administered the oath office to Senator Elizabeth Steiner Hayward (D-Portland) in a ceremony on the floor of the Senate Chambers.
Senate President Peter Courtney (D-Salem/Gervais/Woodburn), Majority Leader Diane Rosenbaum (D-Portland) and Republican Leader Ted Ferrioli (R-John Day) also welcomed Senator Steiner Hayward with remarks.
Steiner Hayward was selected by the Washington and Multnomah County Boards of Commissioners in a special joint meeting December 21 to fill the vacancy in Senate District 17. The seat was vacated with the resignation last month by Senator Suzanne Bonamici, the Democratic nominee in the special election in Oregon’s 1st Congressional District.
