comments on Revenue Forecast
“The balanced approach the 2009 Legislature took in crafting the biennial budget included setting aside an ending fund balance that would give us the ability to make adjustments in the February session. The drop in projected revenues announced in today’s economic forecast effectively eliminates two-thirds of that ending balance.
“The prudent action of the Legislature will allow the state budget to continue to fund critical state services like education, health care and services for senior citizens and the disabled.
“It is important to recognize, however, that even though it appears the economic slide may be slowing, it’s clearly not over. We must continue to exercise caution as we look toward the November forecast and prepare for February.”
