Burgess Named Legislative Administrator

(SALEM) Senate President Peter Courtney and House Speaker-Designate Dave Hunt announced today that Scott Burgess has been chosen to be the permanent Legislative Administrator, a job he has held on an interim basis since May, 2008.

Burgess, who helped oversee the capitol renovation project and managed the response to the fire in the State Capitol earlier this year, is the former West Linn City Manager (1993-2001) and former director of the Alaska Municipal League. Burgess also has a strong background in private industry administrative management with Advanced American Construction, Inc. in Portland.

“Scott has managed us through two crises: the recovery from the Labor Day weekend fire and the leaks that forced us to rebuild the terrace. He made certain that the wings were completed on schedule and under budget,” Courtney said. “He’s worked hard and he’s done a good job.”

Rep. Hunt agreed:  “Scott Burgess has done an outstanding job of managing the operations and facilities of the State Capitol since we hired him last May. His professionalism has served us well during some challenging times at the Capitol this year. He earned this permanent job through his hard work.”

Burgess, who serves on the West Linn City Council, has a master’s degree in public administration from Portland State University.

Burgess is married to Paula, a natural resources consultant. They have a son, Dylan, who is a fourth-year Forestry student at Oregon State University and a daughter, Sasha, who is the Watershed Council Coordinator in Condon.

The Legislative Administrator is the executive officer to the Legislative Administration Committee, the primary support service arm of the Legislative Assembly. The Legislative Administrator oversees Employee Services, Facility Services, Information Systems, Financial Services, and Committee Services.
