SESSION WRAP-UP: HOUSE DEMOCRATS VOTE TO PASS OVER $856 MILLION
IN NEW TAXES AND
FEES
House Republicans Release 2007 Agenda
Results
SALEM—House
Republican Leader Wayne Scott (R-Canby) today reported that House Democrats voted to pass $856.34 million in
new taxes and fees on Oregonians, despite the state having over $2.5 billion in
new revenue for the 2007-09 budget.
House Democrats brought $40.59 million in new
fees or fee increases, and $815.75 million in new taxes to the floor of the
House of Representatives. “Oregonians’ wallets will feel lighter over the next
two years,” Rep. Scott said.
“Republicans stopped many Democratic tax increases, but we couldn’t stop
the dozens of fee increases on individuals and
businesses.”
Rep. Scott also released the final results of the House Republican legislative agenda for the 2007 session. The results can be downloaded at http://www.oregonhouserepublicans.org/links/2007agendaresults.pdf
“Our position on
taxes, 24/7 State Police coverage, Measure 37 and immigration reform are well
understood,” Rep. Scott said. “These results show where we stood on many issues
at the beginning of session, and what House Republicans worked to accomplish for
Oregonians in
2007.”
House Democrats
blocked most Republican reforms this session, and Rep. Scott said the 2007
legislative vote record will show Oregonians the clear difference between the
caucuses.
“The results from our
agenda are clear, and Oregonians will hold Democrats accountable for their
votes,” Rep. Scott
said.
