House Democrats Welcome
Newest Members of Oregon House
Doherty and
Hoyle will begin work on legislative committees
immediately
SALEM –
House Democrats today welcomed their two newest members,
Representative Margaret Doherty (D-Tigard) and Representative Val
Hoyle (D-Eugene), who were sworn in inside the State Capitol.
Both Representatives will begin committee work right
away.
“I’d like to
extend my congratulations to Representatives Doherty and Hoyle on
today’s swearing-in,” said House Democratic Majority Leader Mary
Nolan. “I know they are eager to get to work on behalf of
their constituents and all Oregonians.”
Rep.
Doherty, the owner of a floral business who has lived in District 35
for 20 years, was a local teacher and education advocate. Rep.
Doherty replaces Larry Galizio in Oregon’s House District 35,
representing Tigard. Today, House Speaker Dave Hunt appointed
Rep. Doherty to serve on the House Interim Human Services Committee
and the House Interim Transportation
Committee.
“As a member
of the Tigard Planning Commission, Rep. Doherty has played an
integral role in the improvement of transportation and land use
policy in her community,” said Speaker Hunt. “Given her proven
record of leadership on these issues, as well as her experience as
an educator and small business owner, it is easy to see why she was
chosen to represent District 35.”
Rep. Hoyle,
the Director of United Way of Lane County’s 100% Access Health Care
Initiative, served as a legislative assistant and policy director to
State Senator Floyd Prozanski. Rep. Hoyle formerly served as
chair of the Federal District Export Council of Oregon. She
succeeds former Rep. Chris Edwards in Lane County’s District 14
representing West Eugene, Santa Clara and Junction City.
Speaker Hunt appointed Rep. Hoyle to serve on the House Interim
Business and Labor Committee and the House Interim Health Care
Committee.
“Rep. Hoyle
has a successful business background and a clear understanding of
the legislative process,” said Speaker Hunt. “She is ideally
suited to get real results in the areas of economic growth, health
care and education.”
Rep.
Doherty’s and Rep. Hoyle’s committee appointments are effective
tomorrow, September 30th.
