Rep. Matt Wingard and other House Republicans today stood up today to oppose HB 2227, the bill allowing a state agency to stop new destination resorts in Oregon. With unemployment rates surpassing 20 percent in the rural counties, Republicans said HB 2227 will halt the development of new resorts and deny rural Oregonians of desperately needed economic activity.

In this clip, Rep. Wingard said rural Oregon was promised tourism when natural resources industries were dismantled. With passage of HB 2227, he questions whether the promise of tourism for rural economic activity was a lie.
