CAPITOL TO SEND 410 ‘LOVE BOX’ CARE PACKAGES

TO OVERSEAS TROOPS

SALEM—Thanks to the generosity of Oregonians and businesses, Rep. Kevin Cameron (R-Salem) announced today that 410 ‘Love Box’ care packages will be sent to troops serving overseas. In addition to the snacks, DVDs, phone cards and thousands of other items donated for the boxes, 87 individuals donated $4,300 towards postage costs.

“I want to thank the hundreds of Oregonians who have stepped forward to support our men and women serving overseas,” Rep. Cameron said. “I also want to offer special thanks to all of those who participated in our four-hour packing party at the Capitol galleria yesterday.”

In addition to many individuals supporting the effort, the Capitol’s “Operation Love Box” event was boosted by the contribution of items from Kraft, Wal-Mart, Fred Meyer, the Oregon Dental Hygienist Association, the Neighborhood Stores Association, Nike and many others.

Groups participating in the packing event included Chemeketa Community College, the Oregon Federation of Republican Women, Western Oregon University and Meadow Creek Village Assisted Living. Rep. Cameron said several participants were World War II veterans who packed love boxes from their wheel chairs.

“As our troops and veterans have told us, support from home is the greatest gift a soldier could ever receive,” Rep. Cameron said.

Postage donation checks and packing items are continuing to arrive after the event. These contributions will be re-directed to Operation Love Box for their ongoing packing parties. For more information on Operation Love Box, visit www.loveboxesforourtroops.com.
