REPS. MARK JOHNSON AND MICHAEL DEMBROW TO HOST EDUCATION ROUNDTABLE ON STEM PROGRAMS ACROSS THE STATE
HOOD RIVER—Rep. Mark Johnson (R-Hood River) announced today that he and Rep. Michael Dembrow (D-Portland) will host an education roundtable to focus on the Science, Technology, Engineering and Mathematics (STEM) programs at the K-12 level in the Columbia Gorge.
Reps. Johnson and Dembrow serve as Co-Chairs of the Higher Education Committee and will introduce a bill in the February session that will focus attention on the STEM program statewide and look for ways to try to bring additional resources into the program.
“I’m hoping this conversation will help us gain additional knowledge on how STEM is working for our community and how we’re motivating students to pursue science, technology, math, and engineering related academic careers,” said Rep. Johnson. “We want to know what is working well towards student success, from both teacher and student perspectives, and what challenges they face now and in the foreseeable future.”
The STEM Roundtable will take place on Monday, January 23 from 4:00-5:30pm. It will be held at Columbia Gorge Community College, Hood River Campus, in Room 3.310.
The roundtable offers an opportunity for local educators, students, and STEM industry partners to discuss the issues their facing with our regional government and workforce and economic development leaders. Participating in the discussion include local high school and college educators, business leaders, and representatives from the Gorge Technology Alliance.
“This is another opportunity for us to showcase exciting programs in the Gorge that can have a direct benefit for all Oregon students,” said Rep. Johnson.
