GOV. KITZHABER TO JOIN REP. MARK JOHNSON FOR UNVEILING AND DEDICATION OF NEW SANDY HIGH SCHOOL
SANDY—Governor John Kitzhaber will join Rep. Mark Johnson (R–Hood River) to participate in the dedication service for the brand new Sandy High School on Friday, September 7. Sandy High School serves about 1,300 students during the academic year.
“I'm very happy that Governor Kitzhaber will be coming to Sandy to participate in the dedication ceremony for the new high school. This will be a huge day for the local community and it is great to have some well-deserved attention focused on Sandy and the investment that they are making in their kids,” said Rep. Johnson.
The new high school highlights include more sustainable water, heating and lighting systems, updated technology in classrooms, a larger cafeteria space, increased resources for science and vocational studies, and school-based health center that can provide primary care for students, among many other improvements.
The new high school is located at 37400 Bell St in Sandy. On Friday, the school will open for public tours at 3:30pm; Rep. Mark Johnson will welcome Governor John Kitzhaber as the guest speaker for the formal dedication at 6:00pm, followed by the first home football game for the Sandy Pioneers on their new turf at 7:30pm.
“The Governor’s visit reinforces that education is a bipartisan issue in Oregon,” said Rep. Johnson. “We need to all come together to do what is best for our kids.”
