MARCH ‘LADIES AT THE LEGISLATURE’
TO FEATURE SEN. JACKIE WINTERS
SALEM, OR - Ladies at the Legislature, the popular brown bag lunch series created to engage women with government at the Oregon State Capitol, will feature Sen. Jackie Winters (R – Salem) at its March 22 session. Sen. Winters will talk about her role as Ombudsman for Oregon Governors McCall and Atiyeh. The non-partisan event is co-hosted by Rep. Julie Parrish (R – West Linn) and Sen. Betsy Close (R – Albany).
"We are so fortunate to have a speaker who has been so connected to Oregon's history over the last 40 years," said Rep. Julie Parrish (R – West Linn). "Senator Close and I are very excited to have Senator Winters share her story with the women who visit us at the Capitol for this event."
Women from high-school age and older are invited to come to Salem and experience the legislative process alongside Rep. Parrish and Sen. Close. The invitation is neither district nor party-registration specific. The workshops are intended to engage and educate women about the functional side of Oregon government.
The event, which has drawn women from across Oregon, has enjoyed notable speakers including Secretary of State Kate Brown and Governor John Kitzhaber.
The first hour includes a legislative activity such as attending a floor session or going on a Capitol. For the second hour, ladies are invited to bring their own lunch or buy one in the cafeteria and then engage in a roundtable discussion with a featured guest.
The workshops will be held from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. Dates for this legislative session are:
March 22nd
April 26th
May 31st
June 21st
