Legislation to expand opportunities for women and

minority contractors scheduled Monday

Training diverse workforce key to future economic and equity success

 

SALEM, OR - Three bills to help improve access to contracting opportunities for women and minorities will be heard in the Senate Committee on Commerce and Workforce Development on Monday April 6th at 3 p.m.

 

Senate Bills 894, 895, and 896 would provide a boost to construction apprenticeship and training programs and encourage opportunities for women- and minority-owned businesses to land state contracting jobs. Identical bills have also been introduced in the Oregon House of Representatives.

 

Several legislators and a diverse group of advocates will be testifying at the hearing Monday, including former State Treasurer Randall Edwards and Portland businessman Sho Dozono. Mr. Edwards and Mr. Dozono will be available to take questions from the media before and after the hearing.

 

This construction diversity agenda is being championed by Senator Diane Rosenbaum and Representatives Chip Shields and Nick Kahl.
