Senator Shields appointed to the
Joint Ways and Means Committee

SALEM, Ore.
- Senator Chip Shields, D-Portland, has been appointed to the Legislature's Joint Ways and Means Committee by Senate President Peter Courtney.

It is a great honor to continue to serve the people of North and North Portland as a member of the full Ways and Means Committee," said Sen. Shields. "I look forward to delivering results for the constituents in my district, and for all of Oregon."

Sen. Shields previously served on the budget writing body as a member of the House of Representatives. During the 2009 Session, Shields also served as the House co-chair of the Ways and Means Sub-Committee on Public Safety.

"Senator Shields brings budget writing experience gained during his time in the House to the Senate team on Ways and Means," said Courtney, D-Salem/Gervais/Woodburn. "His commitment to fighting for working families and the underserved will be invaluable to both his district and the State of Oregon during the upcoming February session."

After taking oath as Oregon's newest State Senator on September 30th, 2009, Sen. Shields was also confirmed as a committee member on the powerful Emergency Board, which acts as the budget committee when the legislature is not in session. It is an important board for North and Northeast Portland, as well as the entire state.
