Three key bills sponsored by Rep. Shields to
be heard Wednesday, March
11
Next Generation Fund bill (HB 2741),
insurance rate review bill (HB 3145) and National
Guard bill (HB 2556) all have hearings in Salem
Wednesday.

Salem,
Ore. - Representative Chip Shields
will be busy Wednesday, March 11 when three of his key bills
have hearings:
HB
2741 -
Revenue Committee - Hearing Room A - 8:00 a.m.
Dedicates Oregon's inheritance tax to The Next
Generation Fund with 50 percent allocated to Oregon
Opportunity Grants for college and 50 percent allocated to
Early Head Start.
HB
3145 - Press Conference in Capitol
Press Room 9:15 a.m.
Strengthens Oregon's insurance rate review
process.
Hearing in Consumer Protection Committee -
Hearing Room E - 3:00 p.m.
Hearing will include testimony from attorney
and former state senator Charlie Ringo who
represents Karen Kirsch in her rate case
contesting the 26% Regence rate increase for 2008. The
insurance carrier requested a 19% increase approval for 2009
just last week. It was granted a 12% increase in
2007 after a 16% decrease in 2006.

2556 -
Rules Committee - Hearing Room 50 - 3:00 p.m. - with Rep.
Dennis Richardson (R-Central Point)
Amended version will limit the National Guard
to service on behalf of the State of Oregon unless it is
called into federal service pursuant to a valid
Congressional enactment consistent with the Constitution of
the United States.
