Dear friends and neighbors,
I want to invite you to two events I will be attending in our district this month, a town hall meeting on Saturday, April 18 in Waldport and a Ways and Means Public Hearing in Lincoln City on Monday, April 20.
Town Hall Meeting - Waldport
I will be hosting a town hall meeting in Waldport this Saturday morning to discuss developments from the 2009 legislative session and to hear your feedback about Oregon's future. I hope to see you there.
Details are as follows:
Who: Sen. Joanne Verger What: A town hall to discuss Oregon's future Where: Waldport Community Senior Center, Highway 34 and Cedar Street ( click here for directions) When: Saturday, April 18, 10:30 a.m. Ways and Means Public Hearing
I am also pleased to announce that I will be joining members from the Oregon Legislature's
chief budget writing committee in Lincoln City next Monday evening to listen to
testimony from local residents about the state budget. The state faces an
estimated $4.4 billion budget shortfall, equaling a roughly 25 percent reduction
in current services.
I am thrilled to see our committee take this important
conversation about how these cuts would affect everyday Oregonians to the coast. We can't do our job without hearing
from the communities of Oregon and Monday's meeting will provide a
valuable point of view. I'm looking forward to taking my colleagues to
Lincoln
City - a community I'm proud
to represent.
The intent of the hearings, which will take place across
the state, is to solicit feedback from Oregonians on the impact of proposed cuts
in services and programs. The Legislature's budget chiefs will weigh this public
input before releasing their recommended budget for the state in mid-May. The
state's next budget cycle begins July 1st, 2009.
