Senator Doug Whitsett

Biography

Doug Whitsett represents Senate District 28.

Doug grew up on a small dairy farm in Powell Butte, Oregon. After graduating from Crook County High School, Doug got his Associate of Arts degree from Central Oregon Community College and his Doctor of Veterinary Medicine from Washington State University. He began his practice as an Associate Veterinarian at Klamath Animal Clinic in Klamath Falls, in 1968. By 1986, Doug was the president of the clinic. He sold the practice in 1994 to pursue other interests.

Doug is a past president of the Oregon Veterinary Medical Association and has been active with the Oregon Cattlemen's Association, as well as sitting on the Board of Directors for Water for Life, with his wife, Gail. He has been active in Klamath Basin and state water issues, and as a lecturer at state and regional veterinary conferences.

Doug is also a past president of the Klamath County Cattlemen's Association, the Lake County Veterinary Medical Association, and has served as a Director of the Klamath Bull Sale for the past 35 years.

Doug, and his wife, currently own and operate two small farms in the Klamath Basin, where they breed and raise European Warmblood Horses for dressage and jumping.

Doug has had articles in such publications as the Cascade Cattlemen magazine, the Cattlemen's Beef Producer magazine, the Capitol Press Newspaper, the Klamath Falls Herald and News newspaper, and Oregonians In Action's Looking Forward newsletter.
